Failed to start dot trace profiling on Windows Server 2012 R2

Hi Team,

We are trying to run dot trace on production server but it's failing. Please see attached screen-shot.

What else should we try now

OS: Windows Server 2012 R2

System type: 64 bit

Thanks

Hi Sukhi,

Just in case: don't you have any performance monitoring tools (PRTG, for example) installed on the server? Did you try to reboot it?

Sukhi,

What type of application are you trying to attach to? Is it IIS? Is it a .NET Core project?

Don't you have any performance monitoring tools (PRTG, for example) installed on the server?

This is IIS application and we are trying to attach w3wp.exe worker process to dottrace. Please see attachment. We have NewRelic Status monitor on this machine.

NewRelic Status monitor is a performance monitoring tool. dotTrace (and any other profiler) can't attach to a process if another profiler (monitoring tool in this case) is attached to this process. You need to stop NewRelic Status monitor in order to attach to the process.

Actually we have stopped NewRelic on server and able to capture the snapshot but we can't keep NewRelic in stopped state because we are using NewRelic for website monitoring purpose.

Looks like dottrace won't be much helpful in this case. Is there any other way if we can run dottrace along with NewRelic

Unfortunately no, there are no other ways. dotTrace (and any other profiler) can't attach to a process if another profiler or monitoring tool is already attached to the process.
