Profiling WF

What should I do to profile worflows exposed as Windows Workflow services?
I tried to profile IIS, I can see data in the snapshot, but it seems I cannot see methods called by workflows.

Hello Mihai,

Could you please provide more details regarding the problem?
1. What version of dotTrace do you use?
2. How exactly are the project start up options of your workflow service configured?
3. How do you profile your service (step-by-step description)?
4. Was your service called during the latest profiling session?

Kind regards,
Maria

1. What version of dotTrace do you use?
6.0

2. How exactly are the project start up options of your workflow service configured?
I am not sure I understand your question. If I right-click my WF project, I can see start action "Current Page" and check "Use Local IIS Web server" activated. Those WF and WCF services are hosted in IIS.

3. How do you profile your service (step-by-step description)?
I am doing a local profilling and select IIS with Line-by-line. I didn't checked "Open Url".

4. Was your service called during the latest profiling session?
I have WCF and WF services in my application. For sure they are called, but in the profilling snapshot I can see methods from only FrontEnd asp.net application... I would expect to see methods from WCF and WF services.

Hello Mihai,

Have you searched for these methods? They might be pretty deep in call stacks. See: Searching for Functions
If there are no such methods, please send us log files. To get them, please see How to get dotTrace logs and How to get dotTrace core logs. You can upload all files to our ftp server: ftp://ftp.intellij.net/.uploads/ Please also send us a screenshot of the 'dotTrace Controller' window with the expanded 'Processes' page. See: Launching and Controlling the Profiling Process

Kind regards,
Maria
